Güneş Doğudan Yükselir- The Sun Rises from the East

GÜNEŞ DOĞUDAN YÜKSELİR-BİTLİS’E ÜÇÜNCÜ SEFER

Bu, SHKD’nin Bitlis’e üçüncü gidişi. İlk defa 2010 Haziran başında, SHKD’den Murat Bekhan 2000 öğrenciye sokak hayvanları konusunda eğitim vermek için gitti. Ikinci gidişimiz Eylül 2010’daydı. SHKD ekibi toplam 204 köpek kısırlaştırdı ve aşıladı. Ama ne yazık ki ekibin “anahtar deligi” operasyon tekniği konusunda eğitim verdiği Bitlis Belediyesi veterineri başka bir ile tayin edilince, bir yıl içinde yine kısırlaştırılmamış hayvan sayısında artış oldu. Bitlis’deki “Bir Damla Hayat” derneğinin çağrısı üzerine, 9-13 Mayıs haftası, SHKD ekibi yine Bitlis’deydi. Bu sefer Tatvan ve Bitlis’de toplam 173 köpek ve 3 kedi kısırlaştırıldı, bütün köpekler aşılandı, iç ve dış parazit tedavileri yapıldı. Bunun için SHKD arabasi 8 Mayıs’ta Istanbul’dan yola çıktı. 1600 km’den fazla yol gitti. Tüm ekip, 5 gün, günde en az 12 saat, bazen yemek molası bile vermeden çalıştılar. Murat’ın da dediği gibi, en azından 176 hayvan parazit tedavisi yapıldığı ve aşılandığı için rahat edecekti. Sırf bunun için bile her türlü yorgunluğa değerdi.

SUN RISES FROM THE EAST- THIRD TRIP TO BITLIS

This is the third trip of SHKD to Bitlis. First Murat Bekhan from SHKD went there to give a seminar about street dogs to 2000 school children in June 2010. The next one was in September 2010 when SHKD team neutered and vaccinated 204 dogs. Unfortunately, shortly after this visit the veterinary whom SHKD team trained about the “key hole” operation technique was appointed to work in another city and the number of fertile animals increased again. SHKD team had to pay another visit on 9-13 May, 2011 upon the request of the local animal protection organization, “A Drop of Life” This time a total of 173 dogs and 3 cats were sterilized, treated for parasites and vaccinated. For this the SHKD car was on the way on May 8 for a 18 hours drive of more than 1600 km. All the members of the team worked for 5 days, 12 hours in each, sometimes without having a lunch break. As Murat said, at least 176 animals will live more comfortably because they have been treated against parasites and vaccinated. It is worth all the effort just for this.

Istek Okullarında Eğitim- Education at Istek Schools

Istek Vakfı ile Ortak Projemiz Devam Ediyor

Istek Vakfı ile ortak projemiz kapsamında Uluğbey ve Belde Okullarında eğitim verdik. Böylece sekiz vakıf okulundan yedisini ziyaret etmiş olduk. Uluğbey ve Belde Okullarındaki eğitim de çok başarılı geçti, öğrenciler sunuma aktif olarak katıldılar. Bütün öğrencilere, SHKD barınağındaki köpekler için getirdikleri kuru mama, süt, makarna ve ilaçlar için teşekkür ederiz.

Mutual Education Project with Istek Foundation Continues

We were at Uluğbey and Belde Schools as a part of our mutual education project with the Istek Foundation. Hence, we have visited seven of the eight schools of the foundation. The presentation was successful , students participated actively. We thank all the students for their donations of dry food, milk, pasta and medicines for dogs at SHKD shelter.

Edincik'de Kisirlastirma Seferberliği- Neutering Campaign in Edincik

SHKD-Actiezwefhonden-Haytap İşbirliği: SHKD Kisirlastirma Ekibi Edincik’de

Vet Murat Bekhan, Vet Necdet Uğur ve Vet Teknikeri Ömer Atış’tan oluşan SHKD ekibi bu sefer Edincik’deydi. Haytap temsilcisi Nuray Boyalar kisirlastirma için belediyenin yer ayırması ve köpeklerin toplanması için organizasyonu yaptı. 14 tanesi erkek gerisi dişi toplam 143 köpek kısırlaştırıldı. Edincik’deki durum bu güne kadar gidilen diğer yerlere kıyasla çok daha vahim, köpek sayısı çok fazlaydı. Bunun nedeni çevredeki mezbaha artıkları. Yazlik bir belde olan Edincik’te çoğu kışın kapalı olan evlerin bahçeleri yavru köpeklerle dolu. Bir sorun da insanların sokaktaki köpekleri besledikleri halde ne aşı ne de kısırlaştırma gibi sorumlulukları yerine getirmemeleri. Birçok kişiyi sokakta baktıkları köpeklerin kısırlaştırılması için ikna etmek çok zor oldu. Haytap temsilcisi Nuray Boyalar’ın kahvehanede yaptığı ikna konuşmasından sonra 15-20 kişi daha baktıkları köpeklerin kısırlaştırılmasına razı oldu.

Edincik’deki kısırlaştırma seferberliğinin tüm masraflarını finanse eden Acitezwefhonden derneğine, Cumartesi dahil üç tam gün çalışan SHKD ekibine ve yardımları için Nuray Boyalar’a teşekkür ederiz.

Cooperative Mission of SHKD-Actiezwefhonden and Haytap for Turkish dogs: SHKD neutering team in Edincik

SHKD team of veterinaries, Murat Bekhan, Necdet Uğur and technician Ömer Atış were in Edincik last week. Haytap representative Nuray Boyalar organised the local municipality to collect dogs and prepare a place for operations. A total of 143 dogs of which 14 are male were neutered. Situation in Edincik was worse than all the other cities visited up till now. Streets are crowded with roaming dogs, mostly puppies. The main reason for this is the wastes from slaughter houses in the area. Another problem is that semi owners who feed dogs don’t carry any responsibility such as having them vaccinated or neutered. It was difficult to persuade people to give their dogs for neutering. Nuray Boyalar from Haytap had to go to the coffee house to talk to people about the necessity of neutering as a result of which 15-20 more dogs were brought to be neutered.

We are grateful to Actiezwefhonden for financing all the expenditures of this mission and we thank the SHKD crew who worked full time for three days including Saturday and Nuray Boyalar for her help.

Eğitim Projesine Devam- School Seminars Continue

Istek Vakfı Okullarında Eğitim Devam Ediyor

Bu hafta – 6 Nisan 2011- Istek Vakfı Acıbadem Okullarındaydık. Böylece Istek Vakfına ait sekiz okuldan beşinde seminer vermiş olduk. Yıl sonuna kadar tüm Istek Vakfı Okullarını tamamlayacağız. Arkadaşımız Murat Bekhan yaşlarına göre üç ayrı gruba ayrılmış toplam 500 öğrenciye sokak köpekerini anlattı. Her zamanki gibi tüm salonun ilgilisi bir saniye bile dağılmadan sunumu izlediler, aktif olarak katıldılar. Murat artık o kadar ustalaştı ki, öğrenciler seminerden sonra kitaplarını imzalatmak için kuyruğa kuyruğa girdiler.

Seminar on Street Dogs Continue at Istek Foundation Schools

This week- on April 6, 2011- we were at Istek Foundation Acibadem School. With this we have completed the fifth school among the eight schools of the foundation. We will cover all schools of the foundation until the end of this semester. Our friend Murat Bekhan gave a seminar about street dogs to a total of 500 students ,grouped as three consecutive audiences according to their age. As usual everybody listened with full attention and active participation. Murat is so much of an expert in this now, that the students waited in line to have him sign the education booklet.

SHKD Education Seminar in Kandıra -SHKD Egitim Semineri Kandıra'da

Kocaeli- Kandıra İlçesinde SHKD Eğitim Sunumu

24 Mart, 2011 günü, Kocaeli Doğa ve Hayvan Dostları Derneği’nin daveti üzerine eğitim sunumu için Kocaeli Kandra ilçesine gittik. Arkadaşımız, Murat Bekhan, Kandıra Kültür Merkezi’nde toplanan dört ayrı okuldan toplam 550 öğrenciye sunum yaptı. Yine coşku ile izlendi. Tüm öğrencilere kitaplar dağıtıldı. Her geçen gün, her gittiğimiz yeni okulda öğrencilerin sokak hayvanları konusunda daha bilinçli olduklarını gördükçe Türkiye’de birşeylerin değişmekte olduğuna inanıyoruz.

SHKD Education Program in Kocaeli Kandıra

On March 24, 2011 we were at Kocaeli Kandira( a district 150 km from Istanbul) upon the invitation of Kocaeli Organisation of Nature and Animal Friends. Our friend Murat Bekhan gave the seminar to 550 students from four different schools gathered together at the cultural center of the county. The participation of the audience was super as usual. All students were distributed SHKD education booklets . At each new school we visit, we observe that students are more conscious about street dogs. We return from each seminar with renewed hopes of change in Turkey.

Bu sefer bize Haytap Bandırma temsilcisi Nuray Boyalar ulaştı. Hollanda’lı dernek Actiezwerfhonden masrafları karşılamayı kabul etti ve SHKD ekibi 24-25 Subat 2011’de Bandırma’ya gitti. Iki gün çinde toplam 93 köpek ve 5 kediyi kısırlaştırdılar. Kısırlaştırmaya bir gün daha devam etmeyi düşünüyorlardı ama berbat hava koşulları ve barınağın yetersiz kapasitesi nedeniyle, planlanandan daha erken döndüler.

Actiezwerfhonden derneği gönüllüleri verdikleri destekle, merhamet duygusunun sınır tanimadığını kanıtlıyorlar. Haytap’ın Türkiye’nin Türkiye’deki yaygın örgütlenme ağı her ile ulaşabilmemizi sağlıyor. SHKD veterinerleri Murat Bekhan, Nejdet Uğur ve tekniker Ömer Atış bir amaç için sevgiyle seferber edilen insan enerjisinin sınırının olmadığını kanıtlıyorlar.

Ulusal ve uluslararası sivil toplumun gücü ile Türkiye’nin birçok yerinde insanı çözümün tohumlarını atmaya çalışıyoruz. Dileriz bir gün devlet de, kanunun ona yüklediği bu görevi yapan sivil toplum örgütlerine el vermeye karar verir. Umudumuzu kaybetmiyoruz.

Together for Bandırma

This time Haytap Bandırma representative Nuray Boyalar reached us. Dutch organisation Actiezwefhonden was so generous to accept to finance the project and the SHKD team of veterinaries, went to Bandırma on 24-25 Feb, 2011. In two days they neutered 93 dogs and 5 cats. They were planning to work one more day but due to terrible weather conditions and the limited capacity of the shelter they returned back earlier than planned.

Erdek, Edincik , Bitlis and many other cities are on the waiting list.

By financially supporting these projects, Actiezwerfhonden volunteers are proving that compassion doesn’t have borders. Haytap with its wide organisation network all through Turkey makes it possible for us to reach every city in need. SHKD vets, Murat Bekhan, Nejdet Uğur and technician Omer Atiş show that there is no limit to human energy when it is affectionately dedicated to a cause.

We are trying to plant seeds of the human solution to the overpopulation of stray animals with a united international and domestic civil initiative. We hope that one day the government will decide to give a hand to NGO’s who are trying, with their limited resources, to do what the law defines as the government’s duty.

Konya’da Bir Köy Var Uzakta-A Far Away Village near Konya

Konya’da Bir Köy Var Uzakta

Konya’nin Tepekent Kasabası, Tepeköy Ilköğretim Okulundan öğretmen Nevzat Semih Karaoğlu yılbaşında bize Haytap vasıtası ile bize ulaştı. Mektubu söyleydi: “Ben Konya Selçuklu’ya bağlı, merkeze 50 km uzaklıkta bulunan Tepekent Kasabasında öğretmen olarak görev yapmaktayım.Çevre ve Hayvanları Koruma Klübü olarak okulumuzda duyarlılık kazandırmak amacıyla küçük de olsa bazı çalışmalar yapıyoruz.Sizlerden ricam bu alanda elinizde bulunan afiş yada dökümanlardan bizlere yollamanız.” 1100 eğitim kitabini ve eğitim sunumu CD’sini kendisine ulaştırdık. Birbuçuk ay sonra yukarıdaki fotoğrafları aldık. Bütün okula sunum yapılmış, 1100 kitap, Haytap’ın gönderdiği takvim ve broşurler dağıtılmıştı.

Konya Selçuklu’ya bağlı bir köy okuluna ulaştığımız için mutluyuz. Nevzat Karaoğlu gibi bilinçli öğretmenler oldukça, hayvan koruma dernekleri birlikte çalışmayı başardıkça, hiçbir şey bu ülkede değişimin önünde duramayacak. Umutluyuz.

A far away village near Konya

We received a mail from a young teacher from Tepekoy village near Konya in the beginning of this year. He reached us through Haytap and was asking for documents and posters to be used by the School’s Environment and Animal Protection Club to raise awareness about animals. We sent him 1100 education booklets and the education CD. After one and a half months we received the pictures above from him. The seminar about stray dogs was given to all the students at the school and the 1100 books we had sent, as well as the documents and pamphlets from Haytap had been distributed to all the students.

We are happy to have reached a village school near Konya. We believe that as long as there are teachers like Nevzat Karaoğlu and provided that animal protection societies unite and work together, nothing can prevent change in this country. We are hopeful.

Hayvan Hakları Dolmabahce'de -Animal Rights at Dolmabahçe

Hayvan Hakları Federasyonu Haytap başkanı Ahmet Senpolat, bir grup sanatçı ile birlikte Başbakan Tayyip Erdoğan’a hayvan hakları ile ilgili taleplerini ilettiler. Birbuçuk saat süren toplantıda özellikle 5199 Sayılı Hayvanları Koruma Yasasına aykırı davranışların kabahatler kanunu kapsamından çıkarılarak ceza yasası kapsamına sokulması istendi. Bilindiği gibi, halen, hayvanlara yönelik kötü muamele, işkence, öldürme dahil her türlü eylem mahkemelerin yargılama alanına girmezken, Il çevre müdürlüklerinin vereceği idari para cezasına tabidir. Yani, bir hayvanı öldürmek ya da işkence etmek ile kapalı yerde sigara içmekle yasal olarak aynı kategoride kabul edilmektedir.

Hayvan hakları başbakanlık nezdinde ilk defa konuşuluyor. Türkiye de ilk defa bir başbakan bir buçuk saatini bu konuya ayırıyor. Ve ilk defa kanunda istenen değişikliğin yapılması için söz veriliyor. Bütün bunlar bize, Türkiye’de birşeylerin değiştiğine dair umut verdi.

Animal Rights at Dolmabahçe

Haytap director Ahmet Senpolat and a group of celebrities have visited Prime Minister Erdoğan at Dolmabahçe Palaca and gave him a brief on their petition about change in the animal protection law. In the meeting which lasted for 1.5 hours, the main issue was the request for the animal protection law to be put under the content of criminal code rather than code for minor faults as it is at present. Currently, cruelty against animals including killing and systematic torture is only subject to minor fines given by the City Environment Administration and not subject to court case. Killing or torturing an animal is regarded at the same category as smoking in a closed public place.

Animal rights are being discussed at the prime ministery for the first time in Turkey. The promise given by the prime minister himself as to make the necessary changes in the law has given us hopes. We now have more faith that Turkey can be a place where animals will breath easier.

SHKD Ekibi Erzincan'da-SHKD Team in Erzincan

Vet Murat Bekhan, Vet Necdet Uğur ve Vet Teknikeri Ömer Atış’tan olusan SHKD ekibi, kısırlaştırma yapmak ve belediye veterinerlerine kısırlaştırma tekniği konusunda eğitim vermek için gittikleri Erzincan’dan çok umutlu izlenimlerle döndüler. Erzincan’ın genç belediye başkanı Yüksel Çakır’in konuya bilinçli yaklaşımı umut vericiydi. Sokak hayvanı sorununun kısırlaştırıp yerine bırakma ile çözüleceğine inandığını, Dogu Anadolu’da bu yontemi uygulayan ve başarıya ulaşan örnek şehir olmak istediklerini söyledi. Ekibi ameliyatları yaparken bizzat ziyaret etti, daha sonra makamına davet ederek ayrıntılı bilgi aldı. Erzincan Belediye Barınağı da baskanın konuyu ciddiye aldığının ve sorunu insani yöntemlerle çözmek istediğini yansıtır sekilde köpeklerin türlerinin ihtiyaç duyduğu koşullara uygun bir bicimde dizayn edilmisti. Baskanın konuya ciddiyetle yaklastığının diğer bir göstergesi de veterinerlerden birinin sadece sokak hayvanlarının kısırlaştırılması icin işe alınmış olmasıydı. Arkadaslarımız, son derece calışkan, hevesli ve hayvansever bir veteriner olan Eyüp Beye anahtar deliği teknigini uygulamalı bir sekilde gosterdiler. SHKD ekibi, Erzincan’da, hayvanseverlerin yakalayarak getirdigi 120 kopek ve 19 kediyi ameliyat etti. Veteriner Eyüp beyin bu misyonu ayni titizlikle devam ettireceğinden emin olarak ayrıldılar.

Erzincan örneği Turkiye’de birseylerin degistigine dair umut verici oldu. Belediye Başkanı Yüksel Çakir’a sokak hayvanı sorununa bu insani ve rasyonel yaklaşımıi icin tesekkur ediyoruz. Erzincan’in tum Doğu Anadolu için örnek il olmasini umuyoruz. Bu calışmanın gerçeklesmesi için destek veren Hollanda’lı Actiezwerfhonden Derneğine ve SHKD ekibinden sevgili arkadaslarimiz Murat Bekhan, Necdet Ugur ve Omer Atis’a tesekkür ediyoruz.

SHKD Team in Erzincan

The SHKD team of veterinaries, Murat Bekhan, Necdet Ugur and vet technician Omer Atis have returned with very positive impressions from Erzincan where they had gone to train municipality vets about the “key hole” technique and to neuter stray animals. It was especially amazing to observe the young mayor Yuksel Cakir’s very conscious approach to the issue. He said he believed that the problem of overpopulation of stray animals can be solved by neuter and return and that he wanted Erzincan to be the leading city in Eastern Anatolia to implement this technique and to solve the problem. He visited the SHKD team during operation and then invited them to his office afterwards to get through information about the subject. It was remarkable that the municipality shelter was also designed in a way that is convenient for the species needs of the dogs. Another indicator for the mayor’s serious approach was that one of the two vets was particularly employed only for neutering of stray animals. Our friends taught Vet Eyup Bey, who is a very industrious, enthusiastic and compassionate person, the details of the “key hole” technique. The SHKD team neutered 120 dogs and 19 cats during their visit. They have left ERzincan confident that Vet Eyup will continue with the mission with utmost care.

Erzincan example gave hope for change in Turkey. We thank mayor Yuksel Cakir for his humane and rational approach to the problem and hope that Erzincan be an example for all Eastern Anatolia and all Turkey. We thank Dutch animal protection organisation Acitezwerfhonden for their support and our dear friends Murat Bekhan, Nejdet Ugur and Omer Atis for their precious efforts.

Bilge Kagan Okulunda Seminer- Seminar at Bilge Kagan School

BILGE KAĞAN OKULUNDA SEMİNER

Bu hafta, Istek Vakfı Okulları sosyal sorumluluk projesi kapsamında Istek Vakfı Bilge Kağan Ilkogretim Okulundaydık. Arkadaşımız Murat Bekhan, toplam 600 öğrenciye, üç ayrı grup halinde seminer verdi. Seminerler 9:30’dan 13:30’a kadar sürdü. Her yaş grubuna ayrı bir içerikle sunum yapıldı, 6-8’inci sınıflara “Şehrin Hayaletleri” filmi gösterilerek, konu üzerinde tartışıldı.

Sırada Istek Vakfının diğer okulları ve başka ilköğretim okulları var. Eğitim seminerlerini tek başına yürüten Murat arkadaşımızı bitmez tükenmez enerjisi sayesinde her hafta bir okula gidiyoruz. Murat bu projeyi büyük bir inanç ve şevkle adeta tek başına üstlenmiş durumda. Daha çok okula ulaşabilmek istiyoruz ve bunun icin de sunum yapacak gönüllü arkadaşlara ihtiyacımız var.

SEMINAR AT BILGE KAĞAN SCHOOL

This week we were invited to give our seminar about stray dogs at Istek Foundation Bilge Kağan Primary School. Our friend Murat Bekhan from SHKD gave three consecutive seminars to three different groups of a total number of 600 students. The presentation was different for each age group. We watched the film “Ghosts of The City” with the group of 6-8 grades and made a discussion with them about the subject.

In the second semester, we are going to visit other schools of the Istek Foundation to give the same seminar as a part of their social responsibility project of this year. We go to a different school every week thanks to the limitless energy of our friend Murat who is carrying on this project from the very beginning with an amazing enthusiasm and faith. We want to be able to reach more schools for which we need more volunteers to give the seminar.

Eğitim Semineri- Education Seminar

Atanur Oğuz Okulunda Sokak Köpekleri ile Ilgili Seminer

Bu hafta Istek Vakfı Atanur Oğuz Ilkogretim Okulundaydik. Oraya okulun daveti üzerine gittik. 1-2 sınıflar ve 3-6 sınıflara ayrı iki grup halinde seminer verdik. Sunumu yapan arkaşımız SHKD’den Vet. Murat yine muhteşem performansıyla öğretmenler dahil herkesin övgüsünü kazandı. Bütün çocuklar onu büyük bir ilgiyle izlediler. Çocukların yüreğinin zaten merhamet dolu olduğunu bir kez daha anlamanın huzuruyla oradan ayrıldık. Önümüzdeki haftalarda Istek Vakfının diğer okullarına da gideceğiz.

Seminere katılan tüm öğrencilere dağıttığımız "Sokak Köpekleri Eğtim Kitabı" yine çok beğenildi.

Education Seminar about Stray Dogs at Atanur Oğuz Schools

This week we were at Atanur Oğuz Primary School, one of the schools of Istek Foundation to give our education seminar. WE went there upon their invitation. The students attended in two different groups divided according to their age because Murat changes the content according to the understanding capacity of the students. As usual Murat Bekhan from SHKD was praise by everybody for his outstanding performance. All the students participated in great interest. We left the school with the relief of once more seeing that compassion is already in the heart of children. In coming weeks we will visit the other schools of Istek Foundation.

As always, students liked the "Stray Dog Education Booklet" we distributed to all attendents.

PETA’DAN KÜRK KARŞITI EYLEM

PETA USA 13 Aralık 2010’da saat 12:00’de Istanbul Taksim’de kürk karşıtı bir gösteri yaptı.

Ellerinde “Sadece Hayvanlar Kürk Giyer” yazılı pankartlarla gösteri yapan biri Amerikalı diğeri Kanadalı iki PETA aktivisti, amaçlarının kürk endüstrisinin acımasızlığını gözler önüne sererek, insanların alışveriş listesinden kürkü çıkarmalarını sağlamak olduğunu söylediler.

Kürkü için öldürülen hayvanlar, elektrik verilerek, zehirlenerek, gaz verilerek ya da boyunları kırılarak, çeşitli zalim yöntemlerle öldürülmektedirler. Derileri için öldürülen inekler, fabrika çiftliklerinde acı verici kesim yöntemleri ve fiziksel şiddete maruz kalmakta ve bu hayvanlara taşıma ve öldürme sırasında acımasız şekillerde davranılmaktadır. Egzotik hayvanlara uygulanan yöntemler bundan daha iyi değildir. Örneğin, sırf derilerini daha kolay yüzebilmek için yılanların ağzına hortum sokup içini suyla doldurma ve hayvan canlıyken derisini çıkarma gibi acımasız yöntemler uygulanmaktadır.

PETA aktivisti Ashley Byrne şöyle dedi, "Hayvanların derilerini kurtarmaya yardımı olacaksa seve seve soğuk havada çıplak kalırım. Kürke alternatif olabilecek o kadar çok şık ve havalı giysiler var ki, kalbinizi ve vücudunuzu sıcak tutmak hiç de zor değil.”

PETA’nin bu eylemine Haytap ve Evsiz Hayvanları Koruma Derneği de destek vermiştir.

KURBAN GELENEĞİ

Kurban geleneği insanlık tarihi kadar eskidir. Toprağa yerleşip tarımla uğraşmaya başlayan insanoğlu, tanrının, yani toprak ananın, her mevsim kendisini feda ederek toprağa gömdüğüne ve sonra çeşitli ürünler vererek yeniden canlandığına inanır ve bundan dolayı tanrıya şükran duyardı. Kurban geleneği bu şükran duygusunun bir tezahürü olarak ortaya çıktı ve önceleri hükümdarların kurban edilmesi şeklinde uygulandı. Yedi yılda bir, adeta tanrıyı taklit ederek, kendilerini tanrı için feda eden hükümdarların vücütları parçalandıktan sonra ayrı yerlere gömülüyordu.

Tarım toplumlarında iklim koşullarına bağlı olarak bolluk dönemleri olduğu gibi kıtlık dönemleri de oluyordu. Insanlar zorlu kıtlık yıllarını tanrıların öfkesine bağladılar. Tanrılarla ilişkide olan bilge kişiler, bu öfkeyi dindirmek için toplumdan birilerinin daha feda edilmesi gerektiğine karar verdiler ve toplumun bakire genç kızları kurban etmesi geleneği böylece başladı. Ilk başlarda tanrıların öfkesini dindirmeyi amaçlayan kurban daha sonra bir ön tedbir haline dönüştü ve tanrılara şükran duygusunun bir ifadesi olarak rutin bir uygulama haline geldi ve zamanla bakire kızların kurban edilmesinden de vazgeçilerek düşman komşulardan alınan esirlerin kurban edilmesi uygulamasına dönüldü.

Tek tanrılı dinlere kadar süren insan kurban edilmesi uygulaması, inanışa göre, Tanrı’nın İbrahim adlı kulunun kendi oğlunu kurban etmeye niyetlenmesi üzerine gökyüzünden bir koç indirmesi ile birlikte sona erdi ve yerini hayvan kurban edilmesi geleneğine bıraktı.

Tarım toplumunun başlangıcının MO 9000’ler olduğunu düşünürsek, kurban geleneğinin geçmişi 11000 yıldan fazladır. Bu kadar kadim bir geleneğin değişmesinin ne kadar zor olduğu ortadadır. Ama en azından hayvanlara zulmetmeden yerine getirilmesi istenebilir. Nihayet, Allah rızası için yapılan bir ibadetin, Allah’ın bu dilsiz kullarına işkence etmeden yerine getirilmesi gerekir. Allah’ın tüm kainatı insan için yaratmış olduğuna inanan müslümanların, bunun hayvanların da kendilerine emanet olduğu anlamına geldiğini, dolayısıyla insanın omzuna çok büyük bir sorumluluk yüklediğinin farkına varmalarını dileriz.

THE TRADITION OF SACRIFICE

The tradition of sacrifice is as old as the history of human kind. When mankind started to cultivate land, they believed that God, mother earth, sacrificed herself to give humankind food to eat and for this she tore herself to pieces every year to be buried under ground for rebirth again in spring. That is how the rebirth of god has been celebrated throughout history in spring in every tradition. Mankind decided to practice sacrifice to mimic god and to show his gratitude to him. The first practice was the sacrifice of kings. The body of king was torn into pieces and scattered on the earth similar to what God was believed to do every year for the welfare of mankind.

As the agricultural production depended on climate conditions, years of draught was followed by years of good harvest. Men thought that draught was a result of gods’ anger and decided to sacrifice members of the community to calm down the gods. First young virgins of the community were sacrificed. This practice later became a routine so as to express gratitude of the community to gods for their generosity. Later the sacrifice of young virgins was given up and slaves taken captive from the enemy for that purpose were sacrificed instead.

Sacrifice of human beings continued until, according to the belief, God brought down from heaven a lamp to prevent Abraham from sacrificing his son for him. From then on animals began to be sacrificed for God.

The tradition of sacrifice has a very ancient history, most probably of 11000 years, if we take the beginning of agriculture as the start of the practice. This shows how difficult it is to change this old tradition. But still it can be practiced without torturing animals. A religious practice which is done supposedly for the will of God should not result in cruelty towards God’s creatures. We hope that Muslums who believe that God created the universe and all creatures for man, the caliph of God, should realize how great a responsibility this is and that it is man’s duty not to harm God’s creatures entrusted to him by God to take care of.

BİTLİS’DE KISIRLAŞTIRMA SEFERBERLİĞİ İÇİN ULUSLARARASI İŞBİRLİĞİ

Sahipsiz Hayvanları Koruma Derneği (SHKD), Hollanda’dan ActieZwerfhonden Derneği ve Haytap üyesi Bir Damla Yaşam Derneğinin işbirliği ile Bitlis’de 131 ‘i dişi, 73’ü erkek olmak üzere toplam 204 köpek kısırlaştırıldı.

Haytap üyesi Bir Damla Yaşam Derneğinin organize ettiği bu kısırlaştırma projesi için SHKD derneği bünyesinde çalışan veteriner hekimler, Nejdet Uğur ve Murat Bekhan, Veteriner Teknikeri Ömer Atış ve iki köpek yakalama elemanı geçen hafta Bitlis’teydiler. Kısırlaştırma seferberliğinin tüm giderlerini Hollanda’dan ActieZwerfhonden Derneği karşıladı.

Bu uygulama bir kez daha hayvanların yaşam koşullarını iyileştirmek için, sadece Türkiye’deki değil, bütün dünyadaki hayvan korumacıların birlikte hareket edebildiklerini gösterdi.

INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION FOR NEUTERING CAMPAIGN IN BITLIS

Sahipsiz Hayvanları Koruma Derneği (SHKD), AciteZwerfhonden from Netherlands and Bir Damla Yaşam Derneği a member of Haytap cooperated for a neutering campaign in Bitlis where a total of 204 dogs were neutered, of which 131 are female and 73 male.

Last week, two veterinaries, Nejdet Uğur and Murat Bekhan and one veterinary technician Ömer Atış and two dog catchers working for SHKD were in Bitlis for the project organized by Bir Damla Yaşam organization one of the member of Haytap Federation. All the financial costs of the project were paid by the ActieZwerfhonden organization from Netherlands.

This project shows that animal protection organization of not only Turkey but the world can and are willing to come together to improve the living condition of animals.

We thank Linda Tall the director of ActieZwerfhonden, Robert Smith the director of SHKD, Dr Ufuk Bayraktar and Dr Damla Şahin from Bir Damla Yaşam member of Haytap and all those who made this project come true. You showed that what was only a dream one year ago can be realized with the cooperated will of us all and gave us hopes that one day the cruelty towards animals will end when all animal protectors of the world will unite.

Bitlis'deydik- We were at Bitlis

SHKD-EHD EĞİTİM SEMİNERİ BİTLİS'DE

Geçen hafta, Bir Damla Hayat Dernegi’nin davetlisi olarak Bitlis’deydik. SHKD’den Murat Bekhan, iki gün boyunca, farklı yaş gruplarından 2000 öğrenciye, eğitim semineri verdi. Seminer sonunda her çocuğa SHKD-EHD eğitim kitapcığı verildi. Murat’a göre Bitlis’deki öğrencilerle kurduğu iletişim hayatının en muhteşem deneyimlerinden biriydi.

Murat Bekhan’ın söyleriyle sunumun bir özeti şöyle:” Ben sunumlarda sorunun tesbitini öğrenciler ile birlikte yapıyor, daha sonra onların çözüm önerisi getirmelerini istiyorum. Bitlis’de öğrencilerin sadece %1’i öldürmenin bir çözüm olabileceğini söyledi. Ancak bu fikirde olanlar diğerlerinden ciddi tepki aldılar. Beni en çok etkileyen, Aysun adlı bir kız çocuğunun, ‘köpekleri savunuyorsun ama kuduz tehlikesini unutuyorsun’ itirazına verdigi cevaptı. Aysun, ‘Bir köpeğin bu çağda kuduz olması da bizim hatamızdır. Önlem alınabildiği halde önlem alınmamıs olması cehaletin göstergesidir. Soruna öldürme dışında uygar bir çözüm bulmalıyız,’ dedi. Yıllardır Istanbul’da birçok okulda ayni semineri verdim, boyle bilinçli bir argumanı ilk defa duyuyordum. Aysun’un şahsında, Bitlis’li çocuklara hayranlık ve saygı duydum. “

Bİtlis’deki çocukları tanıdıktan sonra sokak hayvanı sorununun yakın gelecekte insanı yöntemlerle çözüleceğine olan inancımız arttı. Bir Damla Yaşam Derneğinin, Bitlis gibi, nüfusunun %80’i Şafi mezhebine mensup olan, yani köpeğe dokunmanın tabu sayıldığı bir ilde , sokak hayvanı nüfusunun insani yöntemlerle kontrol edilmesi konusunda yarattığı büyük değişim ve farkındalık umut vericiydi.

Bu eğitim projesini başlatan, SHKD başkanı Robert Smith'e, projelerin sponsorları Jeanne Marchig, Petra Poorter, Linda Taal'a ve bu yaygın örgütlenmeyi gerçekleştirerek bizim Bitlis'e ulaşmamızı sağlayan Haytap yönetimine teşekkür ederiz.

EDUCATION SEMINAR IN BITLIS

Last week, we were invited by “A Drop of Life Organization” which is a member of Haytap- to Bitlis- a city on the far East of Turkey- to give education seminar. Murat Bekhan from SHKD made a presentation to a total of 2000 students in two days. At the end of each session each student was given a SHKD-EHD education booklet. For Murat, this experience in Bitlis was one of the most inspiring ones of his life.

In Murat’s own words, the summary of the sessions is, “In my seminars, I don’t dictate anything to the students but by asking questions help them bring forward their own proposals for the solution of the problem. Only 1 % of the students in Bitlis suggested that killing is a solution. The rest opposed this view very strongly. One student insisted, saying ‘You forget the risk of rabies when you defend dogs.’I will never forget Aysun’s sound argument to answer this. She stood up and said, ‘It is humans fault if a dog has rabies. It means that necessary measures was not taken to prevent this. We should find a more civilized solution to the problem than killing animals.’ I had given the same seminar in many schools in Istanbul and surrounding cities, I had never heard of such a sound and conscious argument declared by a student. I respected and admired all the children of Bitlis that Aysun represented. “

After getting to know the children of Bitlis, we have gained confidence that the stray dog problem will be solved in a humane way in a foreseeable future. It is especially impressive and promising to observe the awareness about neuter and release that “One Drop of Life Organization “ has raised in Bitlis where 80 % of the population is a member of the Safi sect of Islam according to which touching a dog is a taboo.
