SHKD Actiezwerfhonden Ekibi Erdek’de

SHKD ekibi “kısırlaştır-aşıla-yaşat” projesi için bu kez Erdek’deydi. 246’si köpek, 50’si kedi olmak üzere toplam 296 hayvan kısırlaştırıldı. Köpeklerin 193 tanesi, kedilerin 48 tanesi dişiydi. Kedi ve köpeklerin çoğu sağlıklıydı.  Erdek belediyesinde calışan bir veteriner yok. Yakın bir tarihte bir veteriner istihdam etmeyi dusunuyorlar. Bu gerçekleşirse, ise baslayacak veterinere Istanbul'da küçük kesi yöntemi ile ameliyat yapma konusunda eğitim vermeye söz verdik. 

Üç tanesinin tek bacağı ampute edilmis, birinin arka bacaklari yarı felçli olan dört tane özürlü köpeği, sokağa geri bırakılma şansları olmadığı için ve Erdek barınağının elverişsiz koşulları nedeniyle SHKD barinağına getirdiler.

SHKD Actiezwerfhonden Team in Erdek

Erdek is a small town with population around 34.000 in 2010 in the south of Marmara reqion. It is a domestic tourist destination where stray animals are cared for and fed in summer times when the population increases considerably with domestic tourists and suffer in winter with less people to care for them. There is no veterinary working for Erdek municipality for the time being. They are planning to employ one in the near future. If that happens we have given them our word for training the veterinary in Istanbul when he starts working. 

SHKD team visited Erdek for  “neuter and release” project.  They neutered a total of 296 animals, 246 of which is dogs and 50 cats. 193 of dogs and 48 of cats were female. Most of the animals were healthy.  

Four handicapped dogs, three of them with one leg amputated and one partly paralyzed in the back legs were brought to SHKD shelter because they couldn’t be released and Erdek shelter conditions were inconvenient for them to spend the rest of their lives at.  The will have more space and freedom at SHKD forest shelter.

SHKD-Acitezwerfhonden Kısırlaştırma Projesi Mudurnu’da

Mudurnu, Karadeniz Bölgesi, Bolu iline bağlı  küçük bir kasabadır. Istanbul’a 4 saat uzaklıktadır.  UNESCO tarafından tarihi anıt kent seçilen bu kasaba tarihi yapıları ve kaplıcaları ile turistik bir merkezdir.

Ekim 2016 başında, SHKD ekibi olarak, Hollanda’lı Actiezwerfhonden Vakfının sponsorluğu  ile “Kısırlaştır ve Serbest Bırak” projesi için  Mudurnu’ya gittik. Köpeklerin toplanması için belediye ekipleriyle birlikte Haytap gönüllüleri de yardımcı oldu.  Civar köy ve kasaba halkı da sokaklarda baktıkları kedi ve köpekleri kendileri getirdiler.  Mudurnu halkı da Türkiye’deki birçok yöredeki gibi sadece dişi hayvanları getirdi. Erkeklerin kısırlaştırılmasına gerek olmadığını düşünüyorlar. Köpeklerin çoğu ve özellikle kediler sağlıklıydı.  Bunda muhtemelen kasabada tavuk  tesisleri olmasının etkisi var.  Belediye başkanı çok ilgiliydi, kısırlaştır ve yerine bırak projesini biliyor ve önemine inanıyordu. Ekibimizi ameliyatlar sırasında sık sık ziyaret etti.

Iki veteriner, bir veteriner teknikeri ve yardımcıdan oluşan SHKD ekibi, Mudurnu’da kaldıkları 4 gün içinde 329 köpek, 91 kedi kısırlaştırdılar. Mudurnu Belediyesi için part time çalışan 2 veterinere “küçük kesi” operasyon yöntemi konusunda eğitim verdiler.

SHKD Actiezwerfhonden Neutering Project in Mudurnu

Mudurnu is a small town and district in Bolu province which is 4hours drive from Istanbul. The town has been selected as a Historic Preservation District by UNESCO.  The town attracts tourist with its historical sites and thermal springs.

In early October SHKD team was in Mudurnu with the sponsorship of Dutch Actiezwerfhonden Organisation for the joint “neuter and release” project. Haytap volunteers helped municipality workers to catch dogs from streets. People from the town and from surrounding villages were very eager to participate in the project and brought dogs and cats they are looking after. As is familier from other cities of Turkey, they brought especially female animals because they believed that males don’t need to be sterilized. Most of the cats and dogs were healthy due most probably to the chicken farms near the city.  The mayor was very informed about the neuter and release project, believed in it. He was enthusiastic about the work and visited the team several times during operations.

SHKD team of 2 vets, one vet technician and one assistant neutered 329 dogs and 91 cats and trained two part time working municipality vets about “key hole” technique.

Kısırlaştırma Ekibi Antep ve Kilis'de

 SHKD - ACTIEZWERFHONDEN KISIRILAŞTIRMA SEFERBERLIĞI DEVAM EDIYOR

 Son Durak: Gaziantep-Kilis

Bu sefer, Haytap üyesi, Canlı Hayatı Iyileştirme Derneği’nin (CAHIDE) çağrısı üzerine Gaziantep’deydik. Cahide’nin başkanı ve sponsoru  Dr Cengiz Bayram bir tıp doktoru, Antep'de kazandığı paranın bir kısmını şehirdeki sahipsiz hayvanlara harcamaya karar vermiş bir hayırsever.  CAHIDE Antep belediyesi ile bir protokol yapmış, hayvanları ilgilendiren tüm sağlık hizmetlerini belediye adına yapıyorlar. Başlangıçta belediyenin barınağını kullanırlarken sonra hayvanları kafeslerde tutmanın onlara zulmetmek anlamına geldiğine karar verip 40 km2’lik bir arazi almışlar. Yeni barınakları Karakız,  geniş alanda kulübelerin olduğu ve hayvanların özgürce dolaştığı SHKD tipi bir barınak. 

Antep’e kadar gitmişken Kilis Belediyesi barınağındaki koşullar yeterli olmadığı için kısırlaştırılamayan 110 köpeğe de faydamız dokunsun istedik.  Onlarla da, köpeklerin CAHIDE’nin kliniğine getirilmesi ve kısırlaştırıldıktan sonra serbest bırakılması şartıyla Actiezwerfhonden ve Kilis Belediyesi arasinda bir protokol imzalandı.

Veteriner Hekim Murat Bekhan liderliğindeki- 3 veteriner hekim ve 1 asistandan oluşan- SHKD ekibinin Antep’de konakladığı 3 gün içinde, 166’sı köpek, 151’i kedi olmak üzere toplam 317 hayvan kısırlaştırıldı. Gaziantep’den dört,  Kilis’den bir veterinere “ küçük kesi” ameliyat yöntemi konusunda eğitim verildi.  Kilis’den getirilen 110 köpekten 85 tanesi Karakız barınağının çevresinde serbest bırakıldı. Bu köpeklerin beslenmesini CAHIDE  üstlenecek. Kilis’den gelen 25 sağlıklı köpek ise, kendi alanlarını korumaları için serbest bırakılmak üzere Kilis’e gönderildi. Kısırlaştırılan tüm köpeklere kuduz aşısı yapıldı, antibiyotik  ve  uzun etkili ağrı kesici verildi. Köpekler yedi günlük post operatif bakımdan sonra serbest bırakıldı.

Ekip bu sefer çok yorgun döndü ama Dr. Ceniz Bayram gibi fedakar bir insanı tanımaktan, 317 hayvana yardım edebilmekten ve bundan sonra “kısırlaştır-aşılat-yaşat” projesine devam edecek veterinerlere eğitim vermiş olmaktan dolayı mutluydular.

Bu proje Hollanda’lı Actiezwerfhonden derneği olmadan gerçekleşemezdi. GAntep- Kilis turunun bütün maliyetini onlar karşıladı. Dernek Başkanı Linda Taal’ın şahsında Actiezwerfhonden’e bağış yapan herkese teşekkür ederiz.

 SHKD-ACTIEZWERFHONDEN NEUTERING CAMPAIGN CONTINUES

  Last Stop: Gaziantep-Kilis 

 

This time we were at Gaziantep, upon the request of CAHIDE (Organisation for Improving Life of Living Things). Gaziantep, which is one of the industrial and agricultural centers of the country   is a big city near the Syrian border of Turkey.  The founder, director and sponsor of CAHIDE, Dr. Cengiz Bayram is a medical doctor who owns two private hospitals in the city. He decided to return part of the money he earned in this city to its dogs and signed a protocol with Gaziantep municipality to run all animal welfare and population control duties on behalf of them. For some time they worked at the municipality shelter then decided that kennel type shelters are prison camps for dogs and they bought a 40km2 land to build an open shelter like that of SHKD. Their shelter named Karakiz is being run by a team of salaried workers and volunteers since 2010.

As we went to Gaziantep, we decided to help the strays of  the neighboring city which is Kilis on the border of Syria. The municipality vet there was only capable of neutering male dogs and 110 female dogs were kept at the shelter unneutered. Actiezwerfhonden and Kilis Municipality signed a protocol for  110 dogs to be brought to CAHIDE for neutering and be released afterwards.

  SHKD veterinary team of 3 veterinaries and one assistant headed by Vet Murat Bekhan neutered successfully a total of 317 animals 166 of which is dogs and 151 cats during their stay in Gaziantep for 3 days.  Four vets from Gaziantep and one vet from Kilis municipality were trained for “key hole” technique. 85 of the dogs that were brought from Kilis were released in the area around Karakiz shelter to be fed by CAHIDE and 25 healthy dogs were sent back to Kilis to be released in the city so as to protect the territory. All animals were vaccinated for rabies, given antibiotics and long term pain killers. All animals were released after a post operative care of seven days. 

The team returned home very tired this time, for having worked overtime for 3 days but they were all happy for having helped 317 animals, for knowing a great animal lover Dr. CEngiz Bayram and with the hope that Neuter and Release will be continued by the 5 vets they had trained.
